Cradled by the sun-lapped shores of the Mediterranean, Barcelona is a city that thrives in the summer months with its busy beaches and palpable holiday atmosphere. Nonetheless, Barcelona is a year-round tourist destination with a cultural and artistic offering rivalling that of any other city in the world.

The artistic and cultural capital of Catalonia, Barcelona is a city offering an energetic mix of eclectic culture and modern urbanism painted on a back-drop of medieval, Gothic and modernistic architecture. Here you are the best-known places to go of course, with a Barcelona taxi.

Barcelona is known as capital of Art Nouveau or Modernism (modernismeas it is known in Catalonia). The city, in which renowned architect Antoni Gaudi lived and worked, has some of his most relevant works, which attract millions of visitors from around the world every year. The most representative is the Sagrada Familia, which was left unfinished by Gaudí and continues to be built just as cathedrals in the Middle Ages. Its finishing is scheduled for 2020 although Pope Benedict XVI will visit it this fall to consecrate it. Other best-known works of Gaudí are the Park Güell, Casa Milà, also called La Pedrera, and Casa Batlló. Besides Gaudi, Barcelona has other jewels of Catalonian Art Nouveau as the Hospital de Sant Pau and Palau de la MúsicaCatalanade Lluís Domènech i Montaner, or the Palau Macayaand many other works of Josep Puig i Cadafalch.

Besides the Art Nouveau works, Barcelona also has important buildings belonging to other styles and historical periods. Especially remarkable are the numerous Gothic works in its historic center, just called Barri Gòtic (Gothic Neighbourhood) as the Cathedral of Barcelonaor the City Council, hidden behind a neoclassical façade. This same style is the church of St.Mary of the Sea(Santa Maria del Mar), characterized by its austerity and harmony.

It also has a number of jewels of contemporary architecture. Need to highlight the German Pavilionby Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, which was built for the Universal Exhibition in Barcelona in 1929 and the Joan Miró Foundationby Catalan architect Josep Lluis Sert. Some years later, because of the 1992 Olympic Games, the city took a major step forward which gave rise to works like the Palau Sant Jordifrom Arata Isozaki, the Collserola Towerby Norman Foster and Santiago Calatrava’s Tower of Montjuic. Right before the Games there was also the remodelling and expansion of the Barcelona Airport by Ricardo Bofill, responsible also for a brand new terminal (Terminal 1) opened in 2009. And in the post-Olympic stage the city kept its architectural development by constructing buildings like the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona(MACBA) by Richard Meier, the Torre Agbarby Jean Nouvel (better to see at night), and projects like a new train station in La Sagrera or a Tower by Frank Gehry. Other buildings were added because of the Universal Forum of Cultures, as the Forum Buildingby Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron.

We think that all this beautiful places, deserve you’ve got a happy and comfortable visit and you can enjoy all the art and history in the best conditions.

To get these conditions you need to book a Barcelona Taxi and make your self more happy while touring Barcelona.
